Breast Anatomy

The breast size varies from largely from large breasts to very small breasts. However, one need not lose sleep worrying about the breast sizes. It is the breast anatomy with no complications, lumps or breast cancer that is more important.

A female breast is like bag that hangs over the chest muscles. The shape of the breast is formed due to the presence of fatty deposits and tissues that are embedded with milk producing glands. The milk is produced in small sac like structures called alveoli bundled together to form lobules. The lobules are connected to the ducts in the around the nipple through narrow tubes called milk ducts.

However, the shape of the breast is governed by the amount of fatty deposits and tissues and the hormonal balance found in the body. Since the built of female bodies varies from person to person so do the sizes of the breasts. The size of the breasts does not have much significance with respect to the primary function of the breasts which is to produce milk.

Even though all females have around the same number of lobules, the milk production capacity varies from one female to the other. Most women produce enough milk to feed their babies satisfactorily. Some women do not produce milk or do so in very small quantities, even though there might be no other issues related to their body or reproductive functions.
